1982 Dodge Suncoach
Well, I bought a beautiful RV and happily drove it away, 10 minutes down the road the engine began to smoke so I pull over and try to turn it off and it just kept kicking over. I finally get it to cut off and pop the hood. As I go to lift the hood I can see some small flames, the engine is on fire. I get some neighbors to call 911(I was in the middle of a residential neighborhood 2 blocks from the fire department). Someone came out with a fire extinguisher and tried to contain the fire with no success. So I helplessly watched my new van become completely incinerated. All I have left are a set of plates that I installed that same day just before taking a test drive. The Van had the propane system checked last year, new starter new alternator, 4 new tires, 2 new doors, new leaf springs, new brakes and brake lines, new rad, new ball joints, power steering fixed, new floor. The previous owner said it was riding better than when they bought it ten years ago. They had driven it to Florida and back twice and from B.C. In the ten years they never had a problem and took it camping quite often. I'm okay, kinda bummed but it's just a material thing. I suppose there are only two things that bother me. 1. The van was so unique and kept in such good shape. There are tons of cars all the same. The Suncoach was one of a kind because it was kept up so well. 2. The previous owners were teary eyed when I drove it away and now it's gone. The official theory is that the van was feeling abandoned and decided to kill itself before getting to know its new owner.
